Thousands of New Yorkers receive Social Security disability benefits. When the Social Security offices were closed to the public in March 2020, community organizations became a lifeline for individuals who struggled to apply for or maintain disability benefits. We will cover the basics of disability benefits, including applications and appeals, and offer suggestions to advocates on how to maintain or increase monthly benefits to help clients stabilize their housing. This presentation was previously recorded November 17, 2021.
