NYS Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team: What We’ve Learned and How it Can Inform Your Practice

This workshop will discuss the NYS Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, including the enabling statute, membership, team operations and goals.  The New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, leaders of this Fatality Review Team, will cover what has been learned as a result of the work of the team, including: common red flags identified, what systems victims and offenders interacted with prior to the fatality, trends within the cases reviewed, and system strengths and challenges uncovered. In discussing what the team has learned, presenters will highlight issues relevant to the civil legal community. Presenters will show where there might have been opportunities for civil legal intervention and how practitioners can incorporate these lessons into their work with cases that involve domestic violence.
