Dating Violence & LGBTQ Youth: Recent Updates in New York’s Dignity for All Students Act

Kristi Khughes August 29, 2018

This webinar, previously recorded on July 10, 2018, will describe how LGBT youth are at higher risk of experiencing dating violence than their non-LGBTQ peers.  Further, existing school curricula on teen dating violence, healthy relationships, or sex education are very rarely inclusive of the experiences of LGBTQ youth.  These same youth may also be at greater risk for family violence and rejection, depression, substance misuse, and suicidality.  The school setting may also add compounded harms such as bullying, school discipline, discrimination, marginalization, and stigma.  This webinar will explore these issues, together with use of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) to assist these youth in schools.  The webinar will also make participants aware of the important pending regulation changes in DASA.
