The Crime Victims Legal Network Presents:
“Disability Benefits Advocacy: Navigating the SSI and SSD Appeals Process Post-COVID-19”
DESCRIPTION: Social Security Administration’s (SSA) local and hearing offices have been closed to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving many unable to access crucial benefits and services. Claimants face many other COVID-19-related obstacles that impact their ability to obtain benefits. This webinar will offer a brief overview of services available from the Social Security Administration (SSA) and discuss how to most effectively communicate with the agency and pursue a claim for disability benefits at this time. We will also cover disability hearings by telephone and other changes in procedures, as well as new policies for missed deadlines and overpayments. These issues are particularly relevant to crime victims in precarious or unstable housing who, as a result, face increased challenges in navigating the system.
CLE: Empire Justice Center has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board as an Accredited Provider of continuing legal education in the State of New York.
