DAP & COVID-19
Posted on July 23rd, 2020
The Disability Advocacy Program (DAP) has provided legal assistance to low income disabled New Yorker’s seeking Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability (SSD) since 1983, and returns millions of dollars to the State and local counties every year.
Right now, DAP clients are uniquely disadvantaged and DAP services and assistance are crucial. Our clients suffer from poverty and health conditions that render them vulnerable to the virus.
This resource lays out:
- The problems faced by DAP clients during COVID-19 (such as lack of privacy and technology for remote hearings, disruption of mail deliveries, difficulty obtaining evidence).
- Proactive solutions developed by DAP (working directly with the Social Security Administration to address issues, working with courts to develop best practices for remote hearings, connecting clients to help for other COVID-19-related issues like housing and unemployment).
