A program of Empire Justice Center, the Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope (CASH) is a long-standing staple in the Rochester community. The CASH program offers free tax return preparation services to ensure low to moderate income workers collect all credits for which they are eligible. Monroe County Residents with children who make less than $56,000 are eligible for free tax preparation and may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. For years, CASH has used the “tax return moment” as an opportunity to connect clients with a wide variety of resources that can improve families’ financial wellbeing, such as on site opening of Eastman Savings and Loan (ESL) savings and prepaid card accounts, savings programs, health care, financial literacy, public benefits, and job counseling services.
“At CASH we know the impact that our tax preparation services have on our families not just in the tax season but throughout the year. Although the pandemic has changed how we reach our clients it has not changed our dedication to providing much need resources to the Rochester community,” said Ellen Oberton, VITA Program Manager. “Clients will be able to upload their documents from home and have their returns done virtually by a certified volunteer tax preparer.”
