Welcome to this quarter’s edition of the Disability Law News. This month, we spotlight sweeping changes led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which have begun to reshape SSA operations, staffing, and regulatory priorities. From proposals to reclassify thousands of SSA employees under revived “Schedule F” authority to DOGE’s growing influence on benefit adjudication and enforcement policy, advocates are watching closely for impacts on claimants’ rights and service access.
We also review emerging litigation challenging SSA’s data practices, including allegations under the Privacy Act and Rehabilitation Act that, and barriers to access due to recent procedural changes, which all could significantly affect how SSA collects, shares, and secures sensitive beneficiary information, as well as, how individuals access the Agency.
Finally, we provide an overview of recent and proposed regulatory changes, including fast-tracked repeals of long-standing SSA rules.
Be sure to read to the end and get introduced to the ALJ among us, Connor O’Brien. She graciously answered questions about her path from the bench to advocacy and we are sure you’ll enjoy learning more about her.
