Volunteer with CASH
Are you interested in gaining new skills, giving back to your community, or connecting with new people? Volunteering with CASH allows you to confidently provide tax prep support or you can put other skills to work including administrative, customer service, and more. No experience is necessary, and all training is provided, along with on-site (or hands-on) support. We will have many open houses in November for new volunteers and training starts in December. Check out the different volunteer roles you can apply for below.

Volunteer FAQ
Learn about Tax preparers
Prepare Federal and NYS tax returns, with easy-to-use software provided by the IRS.
- This volunteer role is performed in person.
- This volunteer role is also available after the tax season, as CASH offers limited tax preparation services during the summer.
- Self-guided online training and resource materials are provided to allow volunteers to learn at their own pace along with in-person classes. Additional support and online training are provided by the training staff.
- Tax Preparers are required to pass an online certification test provided by the IRS.
Learn about Client & Office Support
Client & Office Support is an umbrella term for volunteers who perform a variety of critical tasks for us during our tax sessions and beyond.
- Facilitating client flow at tax sessions
- Greeting clients
- Client identity verification
- Client tax paperwork assistance
- Helps with making phone calls to clients to answer their questions and set up appointments.
- Data entry
- Community outreach assistance
- Some components of this volunteer role can only be performed during tax sessions.
- In-person commitment
- Training is in person with components of self-study
- Client & Office Support volunteers are required to pass two online certification tests (20 questions) provided by the IRS
