COVID-19 Changes

What protective measures is CASH taking?

CASH will strictly adhere to the current CDC Guidelines:

  • Masks are required for all clients coming into the library and to the CASH site
  • Social distancing will be enforced both in the library as well as at the CASH site; chairs and tax stations will be placed 6 feet apart; elevators are limited to 2 passengers per use
  • CASH staff will limit the number of clients allowed into the site at any given time
  • All tables, chairs, pens/pencils will be sanitized between each client
  • Hand sanitizers will be placed on all tables and at the front desk

Are you accepting walk-ins?

Yes, we are open for tax related questions during site hours.

Will services be available during the summer months?

Yes, CASH services are open all year round. The 2022 VITA summer tax clinic will be available starting June 7th. To schedule an appointment visit https://cashtaxprep2021.as.me/SummerTaxPrep

Are there any changes to the type of returns you can prepare?

Clients will be screened for eligibility based on IRS Guidelines. For questions on eligibility, visit our website at https://empirejustice.org/cash/tax-prep/. Guidelines are subject to change

Locations & Services

Do you offer language interpretation services?

• CASH offers ASL and Language Access Services.

• Clients who are in need of these services should call for an appointment (585-900-1004) to have their taxes prepared in person.

Where can I park and are parking costs covered?

  • Court St. Garage (entrance off Court St)
  • CASH will validate up to 2 hours of parking for the Court St. garage


When is your site open to prepare tax returns?

Is the library the only CASH site?

• Yes; however there are 3 local partner sites who offer free tax services

Will you be offering appointments?

Can I be put on a waiting/call back list for cancellations?

Is there another free tax preparation service that I can go to?

To our knowledge, there is no other free tax preparation service in Monroe County. • There are free online services that can be found at the irs.gov website.

Eligibility & Requirements

Am I eligible for CASH services?

You are eligible for CASH Services if you meet the following guidelines

  • Your income is less than $27,000 without children
  • Your income is less than $58,000 with children
  • You worked and lived in New York state, but not in New York City
  • You don’t own any rental property
  • You didn’t sell stocks, bonds, or other financial assets
  • If you are self-employed, you didn’t have a loss, have any employees, and your business expenses were less than $35,000

Why has the income guideline changed for those without dependents?

The Income Guidelines for CASH changed so that our program could serve people who were eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit

What do I need to bring?

Your tax return

I need to make changes (amend) to my tax return that has already been filed. (i.e. received additional W-2 or other tax document). How can I do that?

CASH does amendments for returns that initially done by our program. These are done after the regular tax season.

My refund is less than what’s on my tax return. Why?

How can I get a copy of my tax return?

If CASH did your return, you can request a copy by filling out the information on our Contact us page.

If CASH did not do your return, you will need to contact the provider who did your return or contact the IRS or NYS.
