Let’s Build Your Financial Future Together

CASH is here to help!

VITA, our free income tax prep program, will reopen in January for the 2023 Tax Season

We are taking tax prep appointments for the 2023 taxes starting January 8, 2024.

You may also schedule your appointment at [check back in January for this link.]

Or you can call and leave us a voicemail at (585) 900-1004. Starting January 8, 2024 a staff member will return your call to schedule your appointment. You must leave a voicemail to receive a callback.

Starting in January, CASH will also offer FSA – free self-assisted tax filing – where you can visit our site, use our computers and software, and file your own taxes for free! There will be an employee or volunteer present to answer questions. There is no appointment needed for FSA, but you must:

-Have an income of $73,000 or less
-Have basic computer skills
-Have a simple return, with W-2 and/or retirement income
-Have your 2022 AGI from your 2022 tax return
-Note: this is not suited for self-employed filers or complicated returns

If you are interested in FSA, please come to our site in the Central Library, starting February 5, 2024 and check-in at the CASH desk on the 4th floor. We will set you up at a computer. FSA is offered daily. Please come no later than 3pm so you have enough time to complete your return.

If you have received a letter from the IRS, please call us at (585) 900-1004 to schedule an appointment to meet with one of our trained tax professionals. You must leave a voicemail in order to receive a return call.

Additional Resource: you can free-file your own taxes on the IRS website: www.irs.gov/freefile

Notch is one of our longest-serving volunteers with 16 years of service under his belt. Notch has a seemingly quiet demeanor but that’s what makes our clients trust him. They know his face, and they can feel his patience. Read more on our sit-down with Notch and how volunteering with CASH has changed his life in more ways than one.

About Us

Creating Assets Savings and Hope (CASH)

As a pioneer and national leader in the effort to provide financial services to low-income families, we help people in our community focus on planning for the future by offering free, high-quality tax prep that makes tax filing easy to do and understand. We also provide year round financial advice and access to education and other resources that fulfill basic needs to help people plan for their future.

Before CASH, more than a dozen organizations acted independently to produce approximately 1,000 tax returns in the Greater Rochester area. In 2002, the United Way of Greater Rochester brought these organizations together and CASH (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) was created. Since June 2007, CASH has been led by the Empire Justice Center.
